Overview

Radical cystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the entire bladder and surrounding lymph nodes to treat invasive bladder cancer. In most cases, a urinary diversion is created to allow urine to leave the body. The procedure aims to eliminate cancer while maintaining the best possible quality of life.

Invasive Bladder Cancer

Who is it for?

For patients with invasive bladder cancer requiring bladder removal

Benefits

Removes invasive bladder cancer while creating a urinary diversion, providing effective treatment for advanced cancer

How it Works

This major surgery removes the entire bladder and possibly surrounding organs and lymph nodes in cases of invasive bladder cancer. Urinary flow is then re-established using a portion of the intestine to create a urinary diversion.

Duration

3-5 hours

Recovery

Recovery requires about 6-8 weeks for full healing post-surgery. Many patients gradually resume normal routines as they adapt to urinary diversion.
